Hi all,
I was amazed to see the ventoy Dockerfile still using
centos:7which has been EOL for a while now. Several open issues address just this fact but offer no solution. #2858 #2912 #1335Searching for drop in replacements for centos, I saw that CentOS 8 is possible, but also frozen. CentOS Stream seems RedHat's new direction, for whatever that's worth these days ;) I also know RedHat offers free UBI base, small and minimal images on quay.io. They are maintained very regularly.
Forks, such as AlmaLinux and RockyLinux, have also appeared that may offer a more longtime solution when searching for a replacement base image. Especially one that's truly OSS, coz UBI 9/10 images are not really, since IBM is calling the shots.
Are there are preferences for one or the other?
I mean a PR with a different base is trivial but I'm sure there are some considerations to make, below the surface.
